Field Day 2011

In April, Pajama Day was held at nursery school. The children (and teachers) wore their pajamas to school and brought in a new pair of pajamas to donate to The Pajama Program. The Pajama Program is a non-profit organization which provides new pajamas to children in need. This year Westminster collected 101 pairs of new children's pajamas!

Music Week

Each year in February, we set aside one week dedicated to helping children learn more about “making music”.  Each day, the children assembled in the “big” room to meet our guest musician and listen as they explained how to play their special instruments. Our guests included Mrs. Cunningham who played the hand bells, Mr. Hubert who treated us to the sounds of the bagpipe, Mr. Wojtech who played a rousing march on the piano and Mrs. Hassen who played her 200 year old violin. Best of all, we played our own instruments that each child made in the classroom!

The children hang up their bags and jackets upon arrival!  There are so many things to play with in the classroom... from trains to dress up!

The children learn their letters, enjoy books in the comfy reading corners and pick through the sensory bins.

Homemade playdough is always a favorite. At Westminster, they paint with all different tools and of course they are so proud of what they have made!

Sing-a-long with Mrs. Wojtech is enjoyed once per week as well as Movement with Mrs. Gonzalez... the children especially love the parachute!!

Many skills are developing in nursery school including cutting with safe scissors and drawing and writing in their journals.  The children also learn to wait their turns, including for the bathroom.

When the weather is nice, the children play in the outside playground but bad weather brings them into the playoom.

The children sometimes make their own snacks such as applesauce and then they all sit down to enjoy it together.

At Westminster, children also make many new friends!.

Westminster had a guest Irish Dancer dance on St. Patrick’s Day!

Following her performance, she taught the children an Irish dance step.
